Dr. Smedley is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the Medical Director of the Adult Emergency Department and the Associate Medical Director of the Maryland Access Center Physicians. She was an Emergency Department nocturnist for 19 years before administrative duties brought her back to the daylight hours. She is in the process of completing the ACEP ED Director's Academy. Her administrative interests include Quality and Safety, Patient Experience and Patient Flow. Her academic interests include the importance of the dynamics of physician-nurse and physician-patient relationships on the safe practice of medicine, how departmental awareness impacts our care of patients and navigating the complexities of Sepsis Care.
