Dr. Gatz is the Associate Medical Director of the Adult Emergency Department at UMMC. In this role, he leads efforts in quality improvement, patient safety, and patient experience. Dr. Gatz earned a medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed residency in emergency medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center, subsequently serving as Chief Resident and House Staff Officer of Patient Safety and Quality, while also completing a fellowship in ED Administration. He currently completing ACEP’s ED Directors Academy and a Certificate in Clinical Research from the University of Maryland. He has received teaching, speaking, and writing awards, and has spoken for multiple popular EM podcasts including EMCast and EM:RAP. He is currently Chair of the Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Section of ACEP, Chair of the Maryland ACEP Practice Management Committee, and member of the AAEM Clinical Practice Committee and ACEP Clinical Policies Subcommittee. His academic interests include operations and quality research, in addition to the management of solid organ transplant recipients in the ED.
