Dr. Wilkerson is the Director of Clinical Research and Assistant Residency Program Director at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), Department of Emergency Medicine. He also serves as the clinical leader of the University of Maryland Medical Center Sickle Cell Disease Program. He is the Co-Chair of the Opioid Task Force at UMMC and developed and leads the Overdose Response Program at UMMC Department of Emergency Medicine. In 2015, Dr. Wilkerson received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the UMEM Residency Program. In 2016, he was chosen as a National Foundation Emergency Medicine Scholar, a two-year award to support research. In 2021, he was named a National Foundation Emergency Medicine Mentor. Currently, much of his research efforts are focused on the discovery of therapeutic agents for COVID-19.
